SMOKING GARAGES

Post  Admin on Thu Jan 24, 2008 10:28 am

I took my car into a garage the other day for a service. There were about five or six cars being worked on whilst I was there, which set me thinking about the carbon monoxide fumes which we were all breathing in. When I say all, I mean the workers, myself and a woman who was also waiting.

The garage does have large doors which in the summer are usually wide open, but at this time of year, when it is quite cold, they are kept closed, for the comfort of all concerned.

With this in mind, I wondered why, it is acceptable for carbon monoxide fumes, which are known to be highly toxic, and can cause death if breathed in directly, are allowed in a closed in place, whilst cigarette smoke, is not allowed?

Why aren't these workers "protected" in the same way that bar staff and restaurant workers are protected?

After all, we all know that carbon monoxide fumes from vehicle exhausts have been used many times over the years by people committing suicide. How many times have you heard of someone deciding to commit suicide by inhaling second-hand cigarette smoke?

Answers on a postcard please, to Gordon Brown, care of Northern Rock Bank Virgin Ltd.

that sounds like my workplace too, I often have to endure an enclosed workshop with two 11 Litre Diesel Bus engines, (Diesel Exhaust gasses are a known and proven Carcinogen), running for an hour...................yet can't by Law smoke?

the workshop has no extraction whatsoever so we all breath in the fumes,

EH?????, what's that about then? Twisted Evil

Exactly, and what do our ever loving, ever caring, so called government do about this then? Zilch is the answer, and you know why? Because they cannot make any money out of it, like they can from the Pharmas.

The trouble is, that if we expose this too much, they just might be forced into doing something stupid like they did with the smoking ban, and people like yourself, could find yourself having to work out in the cold outside. What's the effing answer Rob, I don't know?
